One Watch Two Uses - The Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer Limited Edition

The Hamilton Watch Company celebrated their 120th Anniversary in 2012 and to mark that occasion, they released the Limited Edition Khaki Navy Pioneer with a hand wound movement. An American brand since 1892, Hamilton watches are now Swiss Made.

Limited to 1892 pieces to mark the year of establishment, The Khaki Navy Pioneer features a special wooden case which transforms the watch into a desk clock - reminiscent of marine chronometers. The transformer timepiece is really cool… When you open the box, the watch case sits on the wooden case.

And when you lift the wooden case up from the base, you find the watch strap with the case back.

Hamilton has done a good job of developing a locking mechanism to secure the watch to the case and the desk display. One has to align the crown to the red dot found at the 1 o’clock position, push in and turn clockwise to until you hear a click to secure the watch.

Once you remove the watch, you can lock it into the strap and wear it as a regular timepiece.

The stainless steel case houses a Unitas hand wound movement.

Decent finishing on the movement. But for the price point, one cannot complain especially when another brand encased an unfinished movement and sold it at a price three times higher than this… You know which brand I am referring to right? But I digress…

On the front, a smart looking timepiece.

And a very clean looking dial.

The blued hands are always a winner for me and the clean dial makes the timepiece a lot more legible.

Overall a winner for me in many ways. But when the folks at Hamilton Watch Company priced it right, that made the decision so much easier! The 46.5mm timepiece sits well on my small wrist.

The newer range of Khaki Navy Pioneer comes with an automatic movement but the timepiece is still very attractive. For more information on the new Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer, please check out this link.

How about making a case to transform this into a pocket watch Hamilton?
